Ribbon Group "AI": Detailed Description

Applies to: Kinetics Neo 4.1 and later.

The group AI is located on the left part of the main Ribbon toolbar and contains the button AI Chat. It opens the Kinetics Neo AI Chat assistant in a separate window. The assistant answers your questions about kinetic analysis and about working with Kinetics Neo.

AI Chat is an online service. It needs a connection from your computer to the AI service and an active Support Subscription. The icon on the button shows whether both conditions are met:

AI Chat is ready. The AI service can be reached and your Support Subscription is active. Click AI Chat to open the chat window
No valid Support Subscription. The AI service can be reached, but Kinetics Neo did not find an active Support Subscription for your license: it has expired, there is none, or the subscription data could not be loaded, Click AI Chat button on the ribbon to see the message “Active service contract is needed to start AI Chat” . AI Chat window can't be started.

To check the status of your Kinetics Neo Support Subscription, please go to File > About / Downloads > My Subscriptions. If the subscription has expired, contact your NETZSCH representative to renew it. If Connection Status shows Subscriptions as Offline, the data could not be loaded: check the connection. Afterwards press Check Connection.
AI service not reachable. Kinetics Neo cannot connect to the AI service. The icon is also gray while the status has not been checked yet, for example right after the program start. See “If the icon is gray” below.

 

How Kinetics Neo decides which icon to show

Kinetics Neo checks two online services independently of each other: the AI service, and the NETZSCH subscription service that provides the end date of your Support Subscription.

  1. If the AI service cannot be reached, the gray icon is shown – even if your subscription is valid.

  2. If the AI service can be reached, the subscription decides: the green check is shown when the latest subscription end date is today or later, otherwise the red minus sign.

 

When the icon is updated

The icon is a snapshot. It does not change by itself while Kinetics Neo is running. Kinetics Neo checks the status in the background:

  • when the program starts (the icon is gray for a few seconds until the check is finished),

  • when you press Check Connection under File > About / Downloads,

  • when you switch Use online services on again, and

  • when you click AI Chat while the subscription data is not available.

Under File > About / Downloads, the list Connection Status shows the state of the services Subscriptions, AI Services and Downloads: Online, Offline, Checking... or Not checked. More details can be found in About / Downloads panel.

My Subscriptions lists your subscriptions with start and end date. AI Services (included in Subscription) shows Active until or Expired on with the date, or No subscription.

 

If the icon is gray

These are the typical situations:

A firewall, a proxy or a regional restriction blocks the AI service. Other online services may still work Gray icon. At program start the message “Online services are not available” and references AI Services. The chat window can still be opened, your Chat History is enabled. But when you send a question, AI Chat shows “The AI service is currently offline. Your message was not sent.” Ask your IT department to allow HTTPS access to the AI service. The exact AI Service Address will be provided by our support to your IT engineers.
No Internet connection. Gray icon. At program start the message “Online services are not available” including names of all online services. After a short wait (up to 30 seconds), clicking AI Chat shows “Active service contract is needed to start AI Chat.” This message appears because the subscription data could not be loaded either. It does not mean that your subscription has expired. Restore the Internet connection, then press Check Connection
Online services are switched off. Gray icon. The status is not checked automatically while Use online services is off, and Check Connection is disabled Under File > About / Downloads, select Use online services.
Temporary outage of the AI service Gray icon, although your network works and the other services are Online Try again later and press Check Connection. If the problem persists, contact NETZSCH Kinetics Neo support
