Predictions: External Temperature Profile

Predictions of the signal, conversion, conversion rate, concentration or reaction rate can be made for an external temperature profile loaded from a data file. The temperature profile can be loaded from an ASCII or CSV file as a list of points, where each of them has temperature and time values. The file should contain the temperature as the first column, and the time as the second column.

This kind of prediction is helpful for the situations where the temperature is measured continuously, and cannot be described easily as segments with constant heating rate. Example: The material behavior inside an industrial machine should be predicted where the temperature is recorded point by point.

First, a Method/Model (model-free or model-based) needs to be selected (here: Friedman), where only those models are offered with which the data were already analyzed.

File: Here the external file with temperature and time should be selected. The file should contain column temperature as the first column, and time as the second column.

Click on Import File in order to select the external file and to show the File Preview for the first lines of this file.

File Preview (Temp, Time, [others]) shows the lines from the external file loaded. This non-editable field is helpful for checking if the data can be loaded and if the columns are in the correct order.

If there are formatting problems, it is recommended to import the data properly into Excel and export the data again as tab delimited *.txt file or as *CSV file with comma separated values. In Excel, the 1000 separator must be switched off before exporting the data.

Press Calculate for calculations/update of calculations.

Exemplary results:

In this example, a simulated DSC signal curve is shown together with the temperature defined as a function of time.

Customization and exporting of the results can be done via Ribbon Toolbar.

External temperature profile could be used for the prediction of the material behavior for the pre-defined temperature profiles. These standard profiles (presets) are pre-installed together with pre-installed samples. Directory for Presets is C:\Users\Public\Documents\NETZSCH\Kinetics Neo\Presets\ .

The fire presets contains the following fire curves:

  • Standard temperature-time curve
  • Hydrocarbon curve
  • External fire curve
  • Slow heating curve

The conditions for these fire types can be found in the standards ISO 834-1, EN 1363-1, EN 1363-2,EN 1991-1-2.

Example: Prediction for fire curve for slow heating according to standard EN 1363-2. The external temperature profile is taken from corresponding preset.
