AI Privacy

Applies to: Kinetics Neo 4.1 and later.

Your questions and the answers of AI Chat are confidential. NETZSCH does not record them, does not pass them to third parties, does not publish them on the Internet and does not use them to train AI models. This page explains how this works and lists the few technical exceptions.

  • No recording. Your questions and AI answers are not stored by NETZSCH. The AI service keeps no copy of your conversations. Your chat history exists only on your own computer.

  • No passing on to third parties. Your data is not sold, shared or passed on. The AI service is operated by NETZSCH on Microsoft Azure in the EU (region Germany).

  • Not on the Internet. AI Chat is not a public chat website. Your conversations are not visible to other users, and they are not published or made searchable on the Internet.

  • No AI training. Your questions and the answers are not used to train or improve AI models – neither by NETZSCH, nor by Microsoft, nor by the provider of the AI model.

  • Logging only to fix errors. NETZSCH writes anonymous technical log entries only when an error occurs, and uses them only to fix that error (see “What we log”).

 

What Happens to Your Question

  1. You type a question in the AI Chat window on your computer.

  2. AI Chat sends your question to the Kinetics Neo AI service over an encrypted Internet connection. If you continue an earlier conversation, the earlier messages of that chat are sent as well, so that the AI understands the context. AI Chat does not send your Kinetics Neo projects, measurement files or results, and no user name or computer name.

  3. The AI service looks up matching passages in the NETZSCH knowledge base, which contains documents and publications about Kinetics Neo and kinetic analysis. The knowledge base contains no customer data.

  4. The AI model, which runs in Microsoft Azure in the EU, reads your question and these passages and writes the answer. The AI model stores neither your question nor the answer.

  5. The answer is sent back to your computer and shown in AI Chat. The AI service keeps no copy of it.

 

What Stays on Your Computer

Your chat history is saved only on your computer, in an encrypted file that only your Windows user account can read (see AI Chat in Kinetics Neo [/AI/AI-Chat.htm]). You can delete single chats at any time. NETZSCH has no access to this file.

 

What We Log

NETZSCH writes log entries only when an error occurs, to find and fix its cause. Conversations that run without an error are not logged.

Error log entries are anonymous. They contain technical information about the error, such as the time and the type of error. They contain no IP addresses, user names, computer names, license numbers or company names.

If an error is caused by a particular question, for example when the AI service does not return a usable answer, the text of that question can be part of the log entry, so that our developers can reproduce and fix the problem. It is stored without any information about who asked it.

Error logs are used for no purpose other than fixing errors, and they are kept only as long as needed.

 

Microsoft Azure

The AI model runs in Microsoft Azure. Microsoft describes in its documentation how Azure AI services handle your data: Data, privacy, and security for Foundry Models sold by Azure

In short:

  • Requests and answers are not available to other Microsoft customers.

  • They are not available to the provider of the AI model.

  • They are not used to train or improve AI models – neither Microsoft’s nor anyone else’s.

  • The AI model stores nothing: it processes each request and keeps no data between requests.

  • Requests are processed within the EU. Data that is stored at rest stays in Germany

Abuse protection. Like every Azure AI service, Azure runs an automatic check to detect misuse of the service. Only if this check flags a request as potentially abusive, Microsoft can select a sample of it for review and keep it for that purpose. Such a sample is stored in the EU, can be reviewed only by authorized Microsoft employees located in the European Economic Area, and is never used for AI training. This is a safeguard against misuse, not a routine review of conversations.

 

Other Connections

  • Formulas. To display mathematical formulas, the AI Chat window loads the open-source library MathJax from a public content delivery network (cdn.jsdelivr.net). This request contains none of your questions or answers. As with every web request, the operator of that network can see the IP address of your computer.

  • Links. Links in answers (for example to a publication) and the buttons Suggest a Feature and My Feedback open in your web browser. AI Chat itself does not load these pages.

  • Subscription check. To find out whether your Support Subscription is active, Kinetics Neo asks a NETZSCH online service. This check is separate from AI Chat and contains no chat content.
